Sooooo…nesting is totally a thing. Once I got over my “pity party of one”, I decided I needed to get crackin’ on our home and make more room for our baby boy! In all seriousness, I needed to engage in a major purge. I hold on to clothes and shoes like they are never going out of style.  Like honestly, do I really still need that H & M turtleneck dress from 2006? Absolutely not! Of course, I do silly! For the past three years I have had very little time to myself due to work-travel, and when I found myself at home, I was acquiring new things, but never getting rid of the old. This month that all changed for the better!

My first major purge and project was our master bedroom. I received this glider from Delta Children and decided to place it in our bedroom to create a feeding nook for our little guy. I realized that Cory and I would be spending a lot more time in our room over the next 6-9 months and I wanted to create a space that felt more serene, organized and comfortable. My drawers and closet were bursting with clothes, my accessories were all over the place and clutter was well…the norm. I knew were in desperate need of a change, but with all the added expenses and slow-down of work, I did not want to replace furniture. Instead, with our new gifted glider, a few finds from Target, Homegoods and a little help from an Instagram Pole, I am happy to say that I am already sleeping better and spending more time in this space. Isn’t it incredible how purging things has a direct connection to how you feel? I feel lighter and more relaxed in our bedroom than I have in a long time. So, thank you to Delta Children for sending me the Willow Glider Swivel Rocker. Only three shorts months until we get to rock him in our arms.

So today, I wanted to share the few changes and additions I made to help make our bedroom more tranquil and serene

De-Clutter: So purging stuff is the very first thing I had to do! Like I said before, my end tables were outrageous and I literally had a sports bra explosion that was stopping the drawer from opening or closing properly. I went full KonMari and only kept things that spark “joy”. I had the ability to put many more things away in storage and my night table is now only full of night-time necessities.

Update Your Bedding: Have you ever entered a luxury hotel room and nearly sunk into the oversized pillows and sumptuous bedding? We have, but the bed we use almost every night did not feel like its counterparts. So, I went to the Casper store and purchased two new king pillows, added a set of organic cotton sheets and with our Florida-Friendly quilt and knitted blanket combo we can both sleep soundly without sweating or freezing each other out. Also, a few new throw pillows never hurt anybody!

Add Seating and Storage: The addition of the glider has honestly been amazing. The size is perfect for a bedroom and comfortable enough for both of us to use. Thanks to feeding nook advice from my Instagram friends, I added an end table with storage and a power station. The end table has two USB and 2 regular electrical outlets. Perfect for my salt lamp, my phone and my friend “Alexa”. I love having a plush pouf like this one that is super easy to move yet allows me to relax in comfort. This is something I know will come in handy during those sleepless nights we will no doubt endure. BTW I have also been keeping my phone plugged in overnight at the nook. This way I am not tempted to look at it during the night or first thing in the morning.

I also added a tufted bench with storage bins underneath. Once we have diapers and other things baby, I know they will definitely come in handy! I love having the bench because it is becoming increasingly harder to put my shoes on and I may even be able to throw on my Dock a Tot and use it as a changing table.

Add Greenery: So, I wanted a real tree for oxygen and all around good vibes. The only problem is, I am TERRIBLE at keeping things alive. My husband bought me a self-watering planter a few Christmas and I still killed my herbs. So, when I walked into Target and saw this adorable fake fig tree, I could not resist. I still want to put at least one plant in my room for oxygenation purposes. So, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Create a Gallery Wall: When I went to look for frames I had total sticker shock! I went in looking for colored wood frames, but refused to spend almost $40 bucks per frame; however, I found these white matted frames and decided to print photos from our happiest times. Our engagement, wedding day and of course, the announcement of our little boy and a recent baby bump photo. Every morning that I open my eyes I am reminded of the happiest days of our lives. Not inundated with Instagram!

Adjust Lighting: The bedside lamps I have are my grandmothers. They are super traditional and were always by her bedside my entire life. I absolutely love the floral details, but we only had one option for nighttime use. BRIGHT! I purchased these dimming plugs, added a salt lamp nightlight in the feeding nook and we are having this chandelier installed on Friday! I love that on a cloudy day or night we can have more comforting lighting for reading or snuggles.

Purchase New Drapes: I love the traditional look of the tan drapes we have, but our room gets a beautiful natural light that we rarely were able to wake up to. So, I decided to let the light in by adding these white linen drapes. I love the two-tone look, but I also love having the option to black out the room if need be. Having light filtering into your home simply makes you happier! So go ahead and let the light shine through.

Anywho, I feel like I have a brand new master bedroom. We are thinking of purchasing a new mattress. Since we love the Casper pillows so much, we are thinking of a Casper mattress. I have heard great things about Lull and Purple, so if you have any experience on mattresses, I would love suggestions!
