Janice was my high school Jazz teacher, and unfortunately has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is currently receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY City. Janice taught dance at the (LIHSA) Long Island High School of the Arts for 23 years . She has inspired, advocated, supported and shared everything she has with her students. Last month there was a fund raising tribute in honor of her. Many of her past students performed and spoke about how Janice made a positive impact on their lives. Janice was so humbled by all the love and inspiration demonstrated by the dancers that evening. Josh Johnson (a talented tap dancer, and guest on The Ellen Show) whom my sister never met before, even donated his time to perform at the event.
Last year, Janice and her boyfriend moved to Charlotte NC where Janice got another teaching job at Monroe School of the Arts. She continued to impact the lives of so many young dancers. She is an amazingly talented and gifted choreographer. She looks forward to The Ellen Show every single day. On her chemo weeks she counts on Ellen to make her laugh, smile, as well as warm her heart. Ellen is one of her heroes. She admires her generosity, compassion for others, and your dedication to causes, just to name a few. Janice is planning a trip to California in May to visit her son. We know that at the top of Janice’s bucket list is coming to see The Ellen show, and we would love to help her get there. She is an incredible mom, sister, teacher and friend to all.

Janice taught my daughter Stacey Erstein at the Jan martin dance studios in woodbury ny for many years and helped Stacey get accepted to our local school for art and dance. Stacey continued dancing at Arizona state university and taught dance in Syosset many years ago. Stacey now has 2 of her own children and her daughter dances and Stacey teaches at a local dance studio. I have tons of old videos of Janice dancing at the dance recitals. She is an inspiration to everyone she mets and I think of her whenever I go past the dance studio. just keep fighting like you danced. with love, sue erstein
