Spring is about to get sprung y’alllllll, and I couldn’t be more excited! Pastels and florals are in full bloom everywhere, temps are on the rise, and lazy summer days are around the corner. Cory and I have been down in Florida for four years now and we honestly cannot believe how fast the time has flown. When I first moved to Miami I was absolutely miserable. I wasn’t working like I am now, I didn’t have any friends, I wasn’t training clients and it was hot as hell. I cried a lot, and jumped on the opportunity to go to New York any chance I could get. After spending the winter in New York last year, I came back to Florida and embraced the sunshine and our life here with open arms. I feel happier and healthier in the beautiful sunny state of Florida, and as it begins to heat up everywhere else, I think it is time for you to get outside and enjoy every drop of sun and fun. So here are some sure fire ways to spring clean your workout!
Find a Friend: Working out with friends is always way more fun than going at it alone. Book a class together or find a local park and plan a healthy lunch date after. I can guarantee you will work out harder than you would by yourself. Why? Because you have someone there to hold you accountable so you won’t check out last minute or take unneccessary breaks. You may even acquire some laughs and memories along the way. Find a workout buddy today and schedule a time and place ASAP.
Trail Mix: Find a trail to walk, hike or bike! The change of scenery can always be a welcomed change. When I am working out I need to change up my surroundings very often. Whenever I go home my mom and I like to go for a hike around Blydenburg State Park, and she will go hiking there winter, spring, summer or fall. The park is beautiful and trails are long! The trail along the water is pleasant and before you know it you track three miles, tons of fresh air, and feel ready to take on the world. Being in nature just helps you relax. You can listen to the sounds of the water and trees, and get lost in the freshness of the great outdoors. Try to keep your cell phone with you just in case you get lost, but keep it turned off and in your pocket. Find a way to be truly present. It’s not all about the Insta or the Snap.
No Equipment Necessary: When I work in Atlanta I get to stay with my best friend. She lives near a beautiful park called Piedmont Park, and it is my favorite place to go for a quick sweat session. Most people think you need all the bells and whistles to get a full body workout, but the truth is all you need is your own body weight. If you live close to a park take a brisk walk or jog there. You can use steps to interval train, use railings as a barre or use benches for exercises like triceps dips, box jumps, planks or cherry pickers. Here is a great example from lovegrownfoods.com.
Eat Clean: You know what they say: ‘Abs are made in the kitchen’. So even if you do not workout. Pack a picnic of healthy and nutritious food. You can go at it alone, but it would be even better with friends. Share some laughs, and feed that soul of yours.
Lifetime Activities Count: Walking, Tennis, Golf and Swimming are all great examples of lifetime activities that are enjoyable and get your body moving outside of the gym. I do not play rounds of golf very often, but Cory and I love to go hit a round of balls from the driving range. I always went for walks around the neighborhood with my mom. So try an after dinner walk with the family now that we have an extra hour of daylight!
New Duds: Let’s be honest. When we wear nice clothes we love we feel better about ourselves. Invest in a few fun spring items that will help jumpstart your spring fitness goals today! Some of my favorite brands include Alo, Koral, TLF and lululemon.
