If you think homemade bread has to be a 2 to 3 day process then think again. This recipe takes about an hour and since most of the time is spent waiting for the dough to rise, you can work on it almost any night of the week. Although I wish I could take credit for this recipe I need to let you know right off the bat that this is NOT my recipe. It has been acquired from 100 Days of Real Food. When I first began acquiring cookbooks, 100 Days of Real Food easily tops the charts in my household. The book is all recipes created by the Leake family matriarch. The Leake family set out on a journey to eat 100 Days of Real Food and although it was not easy, the benefits outweighed the risks involved ten-fold. In 2010, she and her husband decided to step away from what they thought were healthy foods disguised as highly processed ones and stepped into a world that was very new for Lisa. You see, Lisa grew up like most of us, on Doritos and Kraft Mac and Cheese. Her husband Jason on the other hand, grew up on a commune in Oregon where his family raised and consumed all their own food. I absolutely love their story and their journey and if you are in the market for a healthy living cookbook that uses simple and fresh ingredients then 100 Days of Real Food is a great one for you!
I started making this bread a few years ago and decided to start making it again to quiet my pregnancy cravings during the first trimester. This recipe will yield two large loaves using only 5 simple ingredients added to warm water. Make sure to buy high quality white whole wheat flour and make sure to keep all of the other ingredients organic and you will come out with the perfect healthy bread to accompany any meal. Lately, this bread has been devoured for breakfast lunch and dinner and is far and away better than any store brought bread. It is fluffy and moist and can even be made during the week. Your entire family will love it. Just try not to eat the entire loaf in one sitting.
If you have bread machine you can use this recipe instead.
